Wide development of the Brazilian wines and spirits market
For the last 3 years, Balguerie has been working with the Akhava company, which is a major player in logistics and international transport in Brazil. A fruitful collaboration which enables us to open up and consolidate markets. W2W E-commerce de Vinhos S.A., which is a large group involved in the sale of wine and beer from all horizons, has an influential place in Brazil and no doubt, later on, in the other Latin American countries. We are accompanying them thanks to the good relationship between Balguerie and Akhava’s teams.
W2W has accepted to speak to us about its activity:
Balguerie (B): Tell us a bit about the W2W group
W2W: In 2008, Rogerio Salume created the online sales sites: Wine.com.br, Vinho Facil, Beer.com.br. Today, the W2W group also comprises its own shops, its Bodegas Flash Shops, and a wine club to which some 140 000 members belong.
B : What are Brazilians’ consumer habits and how are they likely to change?
W2W : At the present time, a Brazilian drinks an average of 2 to 3 litres of wine per year compared to what an American drinks which is 9 litres per year. A figure which tends to evolve if one looks at the increase in the importation of wine over the years since 2010. Brazil is third worldwide in terms of the percentage of online sales, behind the United Kingdom and China.
B : How is your activity likely to develop?
W2W : We would like to double our turnover over the next 5 years. We have therefore invested more than ten million euros in developing data processing and logistics. Our main investments have been in the Bodegas and 100 shops should be open all over Brazil in 5 years’ time.
The aim of such development is to accentuate our diversification on various markets by becoming an “all commerce” company rather than an e-commerce company.
"95% of the wine the group proposes depends on importation"
explains W2W who must be able to call on a reliable and rigourous freight forwarder to accompany them.
For the last few years, Akhava has been their partner for the transport of wine. Ary Chander, Director General of the company, tells us about his challenge:
"W2W is a large company in Brazil which very regularly imports all ranges of wine. The requirements we do our utmost to meet are deadlines and quality of service. Hence Balguerie has been our European partner for all our shipments since 2015.
When we developed the wine market, Balguerie approached us and we were thus able to start up a strong partnership which is today founded on confidence and exchange. Although they are based in France, we enjoy good communication between our services and the sales team and the French company makes regular visits to our country. Such visits are greatly appreciated since they make it easy to discuss a number of topics: quality of service, new opportunities or even development strategy.
As regards our customer W2W, Balguerie’s operations teams have shown themselves a real support thanks to their investment. It goes the same way with the sales team which adapts its service in order to be in line with the market and the customer’s wishes, right up to their requests for marketing communication!
These values are important for Akhava insofar as they are a sign of professionalism and trade expertise."
